Snowshoeing at night from the village of Siviez is a special treat; a guide will take you up the mountain after dark and reward you with raclette that has been melted over an open fire. Despite the cold, it is unquestionably a memorable and well-deserved supper.
The summer season in Nendaz starts in May, when the days are already warm and lengthy. If you're curious about local customs, you can learn about cheese making, cow bells, and even cow fighting by walking along the 6 km Herens Cow Path. There is also the annual Valais Drink Pure Alphorn Festival, where you can hear the distinctive sounds of the alphorn, a traditional musical instrument. For those with more time and energy, there are 200 km of mountain biking paths to explore or they can go on a 3–4 day self-guided walking tour, spending each night in a mountain cabin.

How to get to Nendaz?
The distance between Nendaz and Sion, which is located above it in the Rhone Valley and is accessible by road (15 km), is 40 minutes by bus and 20 minutes by cab. There is a small international airport in Sion, as well with a train station with frequent service to and from Geneva (2 hours 10), which has more aircraft connections and is frequently less expensive.
